Student fashion designers were told this week that taking part in the Irish Fashion Innovation Awards can make a significant difference to their careers, especially when applying for further education courses in fashion design.

The Radisson Blu Hotel has been selected to host The Irish Fashion Innovation Awards ceremony on Thursday March 28.This year marks the fourth Golden Egg Irish Fashion Innovation Awards, where newly emerging designer talents will have their efforts recognised. In honour of its fourth anniversary, organisers are offering bird tickets for €25 to the public. Tickets include pre-show drinks and canapés, goodie bags, and the awards ceremony along with a fantastic after-show party.

New gallery in Cong hosts inaugural exhibition

“The Ten Cross Painters” is the title of an inaugural exhibition of paintings in Cong Art Gallery. The exhibition which runs from Saturday June 16 until Saturday June 30, and the official opening will take place at 7.30pm on Saturday June 16 in the gallery. The Ten Cross Painters is the name of a group that meets in John Dinan’s studio in Cross once a month. “To learn and continue learning, and each fulfil a lifetime dream of becoming skilled, imaginative artists, enjoying every moment while striving to work at their full potential,” according to Dinan. Two of the artists are Mayo residents, Noelle Angley from Westport and Louise Conroy form Cong. Cong Art Gallery opens from 11am to 5pm every day during the exhibition including Sundays.

Carbon at 126 Gallery

Belfast-born artist Eamon O’Kane will exhibit his work at 126 Gallery on Queen St, beginning June 13.

Tyrone Guthrie recipients announced

Every year Mayo County Council offers two bursary awards to artists born or living in Mayo, to enable them to spend two weeks at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, County Monaghan. Each bursary covers all board and lodging expenses for a two-week period, plus the use of a studio if relevant. There are a variety of work spaces including studios, a music room for composers and musicians, a multi-media room and a large rehearsal and performance space.

Westmeath County Council is delighted to host a new exhibition by artist Fintan O’Brien.

Past and present students unite for Moate Business College exhibition

Moate Business College presents Glimpses, an exhibition of art works from past pupils in Tuar Ard gallery and theatre on December 1 at 8pm. Works being exhibited include painting, animation, sculpture, installation, and print making. There will also be a performance art piece on the night. The exhibition will be opened by internationally acclaimed Irish artist Paul Proud.

Two exhibitions at Custom House studios as part of Westport Arts Festival

Custom House Studios Westport Quay with Westport Arts Festival 2011 is hosting two new exhibitions, Glass Flowers by Emma Bourke which runs until October 23, and The Past is Another Country by Jackie Nickerson which runs until October 16.
